A company founded by immigrants with a deep understanding of immigrant families unique challenges and needs.
Dr Nyanhoto, Founder
With all of my experience in social work settings I have had working in Australia, I realised that immigrants in Child Protection and Family Law systems have many struggles. Among other challenges, the differences in culture, understanding of risk and language barriers present threats of inaccurate risk assessments leading to incorrect case planning decisions or lack of support for carers and families.
In social work, building a rapport with a client heavily depends upon the ability of the client to trust the worker. Most immigrant families struggle to express their feelings due to fear of being judged or simply fear of opening up to someone who does not understand the impact of cultural issues on their situation. This impacts the service provider’s ability to provide effective service. Culturally sensitive interventions are necessary if we want a nation that upholds the children's best interests.
I started Safer Family Solutions to provide the following:
A safe place for immigrants to receive support in navigating Australia's Child protection and Family Law Systems.
An accurate risk assessment in Kinship and Permanent Care Assessments includes detailed cultural influences and considerations.
A solution to the Child Protection and Family Law system’s growing shortage of workers, particularly those from different cultural backgrounds.
A space where immigrants can learn new desirable behaviours to ensure child safety without judgement of cultural differences.
A space where families can connect, and children maintain contact with their significant others in a safe manner.
